Freelance Rates & Contract Terms
These rates are intended as a starting point and reference only. Please contact Jeff for an more accurate estimate based on your project's specific needs. He'll be happy to work out an affordable project plan that'll fit your budget.
Non-profit/Artist rate: $50/hr (includes initial use rights)
Standard rate: $75/hr (includes initial use rights)
Photography & Illustration rates determined on a case by case basis.
Logo design: $3000. Includes: presentation of three initial concept sketches; one revision and selection; final delivery of vector file in color; black & white and reversed versions; transfer of copyright
CD packaging: Starting at $500.00
Includes front, back and CD face, initial use rights
Book cover design: starting at $500.00
Includes front, back, spine, intial use rights
Book design (text interior): $10/page
text interior, initial use rights
Kill fee: 50% of estimate, or rate x hours worked, whichever is greater.
Each additional use: +25% of final total
Perpetual use rights: +50% of final total
Outright copyright transfer: +100% of final total
Flat fees and retainer agreements for long-term contracts, photography, logo design, etc., may be negotiated, but all initial estimates will be based on these rates.
Contract terms:
All time estimates assume all project information is accurate and necessary materials have been provided as scheduled. Any additional time will be billed at the appropriate hourly rate.
Work will begin only after a non-refundable deposit of 1/3 of the initial estimate is received. The second third will be due upon presentation of intial drafts. Final payment will be due upon completion of the project.
Any project inactive for more than three months will be considered "killed" and will be billed as such.
Jeff Mellin / Big Blue Ox Graphic Arts will retain control and ownership of the copyright to all notes, sketches, comps, proofs and other preparation materials created for the project.
Initial payment will indicate an understanding and acceptance of these terms.
